- Diamond Disk or Diamond Disc was the brand name for a specific variety of phonograph record patented by Thomas Edison in 1912 and marketed by Edison Records. The records played at 80 rpm, similar to many conventional records of that era, but were made of a harder material that was more difficult to break.
