Pseudoreplication

Summary

  • Pseudoreplication: Pseudoreplication is defined as the use of inferential statistics to test for treatment effects (such as forest type on invasives, or grazing effects on biodiversity) with data from experiments where either treatments are not replicated (though samples maybe--if we samples 20 plots in one coniferous forest and 20 plots in one deciduous forest, we have only 2 forests, so we have not replicated treatments) or replicates are not statistically independent (such as putting 10 experimental plots along the same river, excluding cows from 1/2 of them, and then attempting to conclude things about the effects of grazing on rivers in general).
